Partials

A partial replaces the teeth you are missing without touching the ones you still have. It is removable, it clasps onto your remaining teeth, and it gives you back the two things missing teeth take away: the ability to chew properly, and a smile you do not think twice about.

Why missing teeth are a problem

Some reasons are obvious, some are not. Most people understand the effect on appearance, and on being able to eat what they want. Less understood is what happens next: the remaining teeth begin to drift into the gap, which changes your bite, and the bone that used to support the missing tooth is no longer stimulated, so it slowly shrinks away.

Aesthetics, chewing, shifting teeth, bone loss — left alone, all four compound into something longer, more painful and more expensive to fix than the original gap.

What a partial does

A partial denture is not the same as a dental bridge: a bridge is fixed in place, a partial comes out. It sets false teeth where your natural ones are missing, held by a clasp system fitted to your mouth.

That restores your appearance, helps you chew comfortably, and fills the space so your other teeth stop migrating into it. Bone loss in the gap does continue, because nothing is pressing into the bone the way a natural root did — but a partial is a great deal better for your mouth than leaving the space empty.

We make partials. We do not make full dentures. If you are missing all of the teeth on an arch, a full denture is the right treatment and we will refer you to someone who does that work well, rather than take it on ourselves.
